The Alchemy of Pattern

“LIVING IN THE WORLD WITHOUT INSIGHT INTO THE HIDDEN LAWS OF NATURE IS LIKE NOT KNOWING THE LANGUAGE OF THE COUNTRY IN WHICH ONE WAS BORN”

HAZRAT INAYAT KHAN

An icy journey into a rapidly changing landscape …

The Alchemy of Pattern is a breathtaking glimpse into a magical and rapidly changing landscape in Southern Patagonia. The melting of the glaciers and the mysterious natural forces that use alchemy to create such intricate and simple patterns.

At 1.742.000 hectares the Laguna San Rafael National Park in Patagonia is the largest park in the region and includes the entire Northern Patagonian Ice Fields, where countless rivers and lakes are born.

I knew that what I was seeing was a rare opportunity and I wanted to capture the beauty of the accelerated changing landscapes and nature of the ice fields of Northern Patagonia before they disappear.

Mother nature is the real artist and truly incredible to witness.

RETREATING GLACIER

As the trip unfolded, so did I begin to see the beauty in the textures and patterns of this area. There seemed to be an alchemical process at work, combining an organic transformation of water, light, silt, limestone and other natural materials along with the most important factor; Time.

The ice field in this region extends over the mountains giving birth to nineteen glaciers of which San Rafael Glacier is one of the most impressive.

ICEBERG

The incredible icebergs scattered throughout the lake surrounding the glacier were like huge hulking works of art emerging from the water.

They are so deeply blue and covered in beautiful patterns because of the dense compactness of the ice formed over thousands of years, the icebergs absorb the sunlight rather than reflect it, the light is then refracted through the ice and returns as the colour blue.

I was transfixed about the idea of patterns and I started to research, and began to see patterns not only in nature but in our actions in everyday life. I even started to recognise patterns in my emotional and personal life. I was interested in how we all create patterns in our lives, consciously and unconsciously.

MARBLE WATER

“Through recognition, active intelligence gives life to form. If you listen to music or watch birds fly homeward, you can see the pattern coming into form. When we wake up to pattern, we see that each sound, each pattern, each shape is for a different purpose. When we hear a particular piece of music, or hear the waves break on the sand, or hear a baby cry in the night, something happens inside of us. There is a particular reaction, which is more or less conscious and dependent upon our degree of intelligence recognising and reacting to that pattern. The soul is, in a sense, made up of music and we could all hear that music as we meet soul to soul.

We are asked to act in this world with intelligence. First there is pattern. Then there needs to be the intelligence to see it and bring it into being. This can be related to anything you do in your life. What is the pattern of your actions, or the pattern of your decisions? There is a pattern to every decision and every action.”  The Alchemy of the Heart - Reshad Feild

What is the pattern of your life?

THE MARBLE CAVE

“Consciousness is the reaction of the active intelligence to pattern. What we are involved with is pattern, whether it is the pattern of healing or the pattern of thought-form. We need awakened intelligence, which gives us the ability to recognise pattern. Pattern literally comes from the One divine source into colour, sound and form. To recognise this, we need active intelligence which requires will and complete wakefulness. It is being completely awake to the patterns of life, awake to the shapes and forms coming into manifestation. Learn to be conscious of the most perfect patterns of life, which emanate from the divine archetypes, and to which we are asked to serve. There is perfect beauty all around us, but without consciousness and without active intelligence to serve it, it is wasted, unseen and unused …”

THE ENVIRONMENT IS DECLINING AT A RAPID RATE.

WE ARE AT SUCH AN IMPORTANT TIPPING POINT WITH MOTHER NATURE.

TO BECOME CONSCIOUS OF THE PATTERNS WE REPEAT IN OUR LIVES, OUR CONNECTION TO NATURE AND OUR RELIANCE UPON IT, IS A NECESSITY TO SURVIVE.

WHEN WE ARE CONNECTED TO SOMETHING, WE CARE FOR IT AND WE WANT TO LOOK AFTER IT.

MAKING A STRONG CONNECTION AND RECOGNISING OUR PATTERNS, AND OUR FRAGILITY WITHIN MOTHER NATURE WILL CHANGE OUR FUTURE ON THIS PLANET.
